CNN, ALONG WITH THE OTHER CABLE NEWS CHANNELS, HAVE FALLEN DOWN THE ISRAELI WAR RABBIT HOLE

And instead of trying to lift themselves out, they just dig in deeper. They have rarely reported on anything else 24 hours a day since the first moments of the attack. Even when they occasionally cover other important news items such as America political matters, the coverage is very brief and it is provided from perspective of how it is impacted by the Israeli war.

I may be alone on this.  Maybe this is what the American viewing public wants to see to the exclusion of everything else that is happening across this nation and the rest of the world, but I am tired of it.  Sure it is an important news event to cover, but not to the exclusion of everything else.  I don’t even remember 9/11 being covered this extensively for so long a period of time and there seems to no end in sight.

If the exact same events, with the exact same carnage, brutality, loss of innocent lives, and the same upheaval and danger to so many others had occurred in a country in Africa, do you think that CNN and the other cable news channels would provide this amount of continuous coverage?  Hell no!  So what is so special about Israel?

I used to be a big supporter of Israel, which at the time I saw as a little oasis of democracy surrounded by vicious enemies. I guess I viewed it as a Davis versus Goliath stand off. However, over time I educated myself and learned that early on the Israelis used deadly terror attacks to drive out the British soldiers who were trying to limit the mass number of Jews entering the territory and effectively driving Palestinians off of their land where their ancestors had lived for almost two thousand years.  (Sure the last of the Jews had be driven out of ancient Israel in 136 AD after the Romans grew tired of their constant rebellions. However, do we honor the claim of native Americans to all of the land of the United States because they were once driven off of their land, some as late as 150 years ago?)

Then I also came to realize that the policies Israeli government were, and still are a major cause of the tensions and violence in the region, especially since current right wing coalition came to power.  Yes, we definitely have to condemn in strongest manner possible mass terrorist attacks regardless of where and why they occur! That goes without question.  But don’t we also have to call out countries that continue drive people off their land for religious objectives and treat them like third class citizens?

Sooner or later, CNN and the other cable news networks will return to their normal programing when the conflict dies down, are maybe they will sooner or later figure out that no o one is watching.  However, until then, while I may take an occasional glance to see what’s going on, I will explore other channels and catch up on the video content that I have recorded.
