REPUBLICANS ONLY PRETEND TO WORSHIP THE CONSTITUTION

I used to think that Republicans believed wholeheartedly in the Constitution. However, I have come to realize that they only support the sections that suit their core beliefs.  They are supposedly big champions of individual rights as enshrined in the constitution, but they are the first to try to trample on the rights of the accused and they are constantly attempting to impose their will on others.

One of the primary objectives of the founding fathers was to ensure that what they had witnessed in Europe, the imposing of religious beliefs on others, would never happen in the new government they were forming. That is why they made the concept of separation of church and state a prominent concept in the Constitution.

Yet Republicans continue to try to impose their religious beliefs on others who don’t share those beliefs. They insist that their Christian prayers, and only their prayers, be recited in schools and public events.  However, they don’t respect the rights of those who do not believe as they do. For instance, they have even objected to having yoga taught in physical education classes because they mistakenly believe that it would “expose their children to Eastern religions”.

Because of their religious beliefs, Republicans are doing their best to outlaw abortions.  Not even all Christians believe that human life begins at conception, and even some Christians who would never have an abortion, or condone an abortion by their loved ones, still believe in a women’s right to control her own body.

In fact, polls show that 60% of Americans, many of them Christians, believe that women should be able to obtain abortions during the first trimester of their pregnancy.  Yet the religious extremists in the Republican Party continue their efforts to impose their religious beliefs on others by trying to make abortions illegal, even in cases of rape and Incest.

Republicans only pretend to worship the US Constitution. They are what I call cafeteria constitutionalists. They pick and choose what parts of the constitution they support and do their best to ignore the rest as if it didn’t exist.
